Trying Out a New Place: Orchard Road

Orchard Road

We were at SM Megamall when we saw a new restaurant at the 2nd floor of the bridge way. So after shopping, we decided to try out Orchard Road and see if this place and the food there is good. It was the restaurant’s soft opening that night.

Orchard Road is a place in Singapore and so,  they serve Singaporean food there.  They have a unique way of ordering food. The waiter and waitresses gives you a sheet of their menu that you can look at and write on what food you want to order. You pay it on their counter and wait for it to get served. They also have an open kitchen and you can see how they cook the food there.

The only thing that we had difficulty there is knowing what food is on the menu. Some of the dishes and drinks there are in other languages which gives us no clue what those are. We just took the risk and ordered some food.

We ordered Hainanese Chicken Rice, Char Siew Asado Rice, Black Pepper Pork, Deep Fried Wantons, Badung and Apple Fruit Shake for our drinks.

Badung

Badung

Apple Fruit Shake

Apple Fruit Shake

Their service was okay, we waited for a while then our drinks came, the Badung and Apple Fruit Shake. The Badung is a pink mix with ice. It tasted like lychee with milk. You need to mix it first so that the ice would make the whole drink cold because the lower part of the glass is quite warm. The Apple Fruit Shake also tasted good. You can taste chunks of apple as you drink in it. It was real blended fruit that was made before served.

Hainanese Chicken Rice

Hainanese Chicken Rice

The Hainanese Chicken Rice was served next. It is served with a dipping sauce made of ginger and oyster sauce (I think). The chicken tasted a bit bland which is normal since the way you cook a Hainanese Chicken is just boiling it until cooked. The dip gives it a yummy flavor. The Rice was yummy. It tasted like arroz caldo since the water used to cook it was the one used to boil the chicken. It was a yummy dish.

Char Siew Asado Rice

The Char Siew Asado Rice was also yummy. The pork was cut thinly and the asado sauce was drizzled on top. It was served with ordinary rice. It was yummy but the sauce was quite bitin.

Black Pepper Pork

The Black Pepper Pork was also good. It was also served with ordinary rice. The pork haw some vegetables on it and was cooked together with the sauce. It has also a fried egg on the side. Like the name of the dish, it was quite peppery but overall the dish was yummy.

Deep Fried Wanton

Deep Fried Wanton

The Deep Fried Wanton has 5 pieces per serving. It was just ordinary fried wantons like you can buy on other restaurants. The filling was quite few but it was okay since it wasn’t that expensive.

We were there at their soft opening and I guess they concentrate more on customer satisfaction. We would eat there again if there is something that they have changed from their soft opening. It was fun experience to try out their dishes.

  1. Hmm.. Not good at all. Won’t go back there again. Ambiance is good and service was ok. The problem is, you go to a fastfood/restaurant to eat.

I will give the food a 1/10 rating. Not tasty and not unique. Price is unreasonable for such tasteless dishes.

    • Well, I ate there for the second time and I must say that their soft opening day was better. The food was not the same especially the Hainanese Chicken Rice. I liked the first one I tried that is why I ordered it again an was a bit disappointed. Oh well, at least I get to try it there.
