Heart’s Day at CPK

Valentines spent with someone special is one of the best night you’ll ever have!

Joms and I spend the afternoon watching movies and decided to eat out for dinner. We went to California Pizza Kitchen in Shangri-la Plaza Mall since their big advertisement outside the mall always tempts us to eat there.

We called their place ahead to reserve in case the place gets crowded. We went there at around 7pm and contrary to what we expected, the place is not crowded.  We got a table near the windows where we could see ISB, our usual inuman place.  Our place is also near the television and it was set on Cartoon Network. I think it was for the kids that eats there. We couldn’t hear anything from it since the restaurant plays different music for the other customers. The whole restaurant is nice. They have dim lighting and nice service from their waiters.

They handed to us the menu and even though we checked it earlier, we had difficult time deciding what to order. We ended up ordering half of the Thai Crunch Salad, Chicken Piccata, Sta. Fe Chicken Pizza and a Raspberry Iced Tea. We didn’t realize that our order was quite big and too much for two people, but anyways, we like food and these are new to our taste buds.

The Thai Crunch Salad is made of shredded Napa cabbage, chilled-grilled chicken breast, julienne cucumbers, edamame, crispy wontons, peanuts, cilantro, julienne carrots, red cabbage and green onions tossed with a lime-cilantro dressing and topped with crispy rice sticks and Thai peanut dressing. I like the salad since it has chicken chunks in it. The peanut dressing blends well with each ingredient. I just don’t like the peanuts in the salad. Its not that it’s not good but I just don’t like peanuts on my food. Generally, it is good and i liked it.

The Chicken Picatta is made up of thinly pounded chicken breast, sautéed in a creamy lemon-caper sauce and served with spaghettini pasta. At first, we got curious of the capers on the dish. It looks like raisins only that it is green and as we tasted it, it was quite sour. I didn’t know what it was at first but I have a hunch what it was. I was not quite sure. The chicken was delicious. It goes well with the sourness of the capers and the creaminess of the sauce. Paired up with the pasta, it tasted great! I liked the dish too.

The Sta. Fe Chicken Pizza is made up of grilled chicken breast marinated in lime and herbs, caramelized onions, Mozzarella cheese and cilantro. It was topped with fresh tomato salsa, sour cream and fresh guacamole. This pizza is unique since there is a scoop of sour cream and guacamole and salsa in the middle. You need to spread it on your slice to enjoy the full flavor of the dish. It was something new for us that’s why we enjoyed it. The toppings blends well with the grilled chicken on the crust. I loved that pizza so much I wished I had more room in my stomach to eat another slice.

The dishes we ordered was really heavy on the stomach. It took us almost three hours just finishing it all up. We’ve already watched a lot of cartoons on the TV and had talked about almost everything but in the end, we still had a lot of left overs. We decided to take them home. If only we haven’t eaten chips while watching movies earlier, we could have finished everything up since we didn’t eat lunch that day. But I think that whole meal was good for about 4 people. Some appetite we had that night!

As we were about to leave, they gave us a free dessert. It was i think for consuming worth something a certain amount.  It was a Chocolate Soufflé Cake ala mode. It was made up of a Belgian chocolate soufflé cake, served warm with CPK’s triple-thick hot fudge on vanilla bean sauce and topped with a  Haagen-Dazs ice cream. We were so delighted that we started to dig in to the treat. It was so good! the chocolate soufflé was so good and together with the ice cream, it tasted even better. Unfortunately, our stomach space was already full and we couldn’t finish the treat. We wanted to spent more time there to finish it up but it was almost closing time.

We went home with a really really full stomach.  That day was so special that everything that happened seems not to fit in just one day.  It was nice having Joms that day. I hope that there would be more days like that with him. 🙂
